Climate Ironies....
British Rail used to have this brilliant strap-line..."We're getting there" which I felt was fabulously understated and unambitious, but firmly rooted in reality. I think the same can be applied to recent climate change mitigation I have noticed.
Three candidates for irony of the week then....
- Oxford Street closes to all traffic - car free Oxford Street. Brilliant. Cue masses of shoppers spending like crazy and walking home with bags and bags of economy boosting packaged nonsense.
- Houses covered in LED Christmas Lights - The Daily Mail reports two competing homes as 'doing their bit to save the planet'. Great, use LEDs instead of incandescents. How about not causing all the light pollution in the first place?
- Recycling - I saw a woman doing her bit this week. She turned up to the recycling centre with a car full of recyclables. It took her 15 minutes there was so much of it. The whole time the engine of her 2.5 litre BMW was running. Doh!
So not wishing to be entirely negative, I think its safe to say, "We're getting there".
